You may be tired of hearing about my housing situation by now. I assume so? If that’s the case, don’t fret. I’ll be back to hard-core, indie filmmaking talk soon enough. ‘Til then, I have just a few more housing-related things to share.

Earlier this week I revealed some big changes in my world, namely The Great Housing Adventure (TGHA) of 2013 and how it’s caused me to be a little MIA lately. You can read Part I, II, and III if you’d like more info. Today, though, I wanna kick it into high gear and share the juicy, dreamy details about design of my studio. It’s a work in progress.

Yesterday I mentioned that I’d drawn a few conclusions about it. Ready? OK, here we go.

My desk will NOT face a wall. I want a big, beautiful desk that faces the entrance to the room. Behind the desk, I want something pretty that stores stuff. A credenza, if you will. I want scones sconces on either side of an abstract painting above the credenza, specifically one that my mother painted when she was in college. I want framed family pics, cute chotchkies, plants, and purposeful office-y things on top  of the credenza where they won’t crowd the desk.

It’ll be something akin to Olivia Pope’s office in terms of function but maybe not fashion. Although the set and costume designers on Scandal know how to make me drool through every episode. I want, like, all of Olivia Pope’s things: clothes, shoes, handbags, office. I can have that now, please?

Storage options in the studio will be vital. I do a lot of different creative stuff and each one requires a different set of tools. When I’m not using those tools, they need a pretty way to be safely stored out-of-sight. Think of it like being on an airplane: many passengers come in with all sorts of different carry-on luggage (big and small, hard and soft, cute and ugly, etc.) but when the overhead bins are closed, you can’t see the differences. You just see the closed overhead bins.

I don’t want to see the mess when those tools are not in use. I want to see something that appears organized, even if it’s just from the outside. It helps me concentrate on the task at hand.

Something like these shiny, white storage units from Emily Henderson would be ideal. Aren’t they gorgeous? She also put some in her own office, then covered them with inspirational pics. I can dig it. Check out her post from January 2013 about making your office happier and brighter here.

Lighting is key. I’m a gal that loves sunshine. I want bright, crisp whites everywhere I can help having it. Task lighting. Lots of lamps. You get the gist.

The room will be divided into sections that serve a purpose. The room will be multi-purpose, which I mentioned yesterday. I do a lot of different creative stuff. So I’m hoping to organize it in such a way that it allows plenty of room for all of my creative activities.

This studio will, somehow, make me feel slightly more legit as an artist. This is psychological, baby. Humans use physical things to express their inner thoughts and emotions. Surround yourself with the people, spaces, and things that inspire you and help you become the person you aspire to be — then you might actually become that person, right?

Well, that’s what this room is to me. This studio will be my Bat Cave, where I can take off the mask and be myself and think about how I can fight crime create something that makes the world a better place. I can’t wait.

Follow Along on Tumblr

Welp. That’s about it, for now anyway. If you want to follow along with my interior design and DIY musings, I’m putting them in one place: cammicam.tumblr.com. That way I can post as I please without betraying my promise to write about film stuff.
