I’m trying to ditch 30 lbs this year. Seriously hoping to lose a lot of it before I get hitched in April. I wrote a little bit about my goals earlier this year, which you can revisit here.
How’s it going? So far, so good. I guess. Here are some of my victories and failures. I need to up the ante, for reals. April’s just around the corner…
Victory: I have returned to the gym, started running, and lifting weights again. I used to run four miles on a regular basis I’m nowhere near that yet, but I’m running again so I count that as a victory. It’s been months since I’d last gone running. (More accurate description: jogging.) At the very least, going to the gym again has become a part of a new routine and that’s a victory.
Failure: I keep eating fries. I think it’s a convenience thing, really, because they don’t taste all the great. It’s just easy to say yes when asked, “Want fries as your side?” I need to remember to pause, read the list of side dishes, and make a better decision each time. I can do it.
Victory: I have turned down alcoholic beverages with relative ease, even though I know they taste amazing. Ohmygoodness, I love a glass of really great red wine. Or a pint of drool-worthy, locally brewed beer. I haven’t stopped consuming alcohol completely — what, are you crazy? — but I have cut back and I feel better as a result.
Failure: So much sugar goes into my coffee each morning. Ugh. I love great coffee so much!
Victory: I bought a better kind of sugar. It’s organic or natural or something like that. So when I make coffee at home it’s supposedly healthier. Now I just have to get in the habit of making coffee at home on a regular basis. Which means waking up earlier. Which reminds me…
Failure: I haven’t been going to bed earlier. Must start doing that again soon.
Other victories: I have been eating breakfast (apples, grapefruit, a piece of toast). I stocked up on some healthy snacks, so I can continue grazing as needed. Olives, granola, apples, and Greek yogurt have been helping a lot. I also picked up some kefir, which is sweet and filling when I need it. I hardly ever want soda, so that’s been easy to curb. And I’ve got a solid hydration plan in place, meaning I typically carry cold, refreshing water with me everywhere. I’m also talking about it out loud (and blogging here), which means I have to hold myself accountable. So, those are all little victories, for sure.
So that’s where I am today. I have been thinking of making it a bit more serious in the next few weeks by cutting out unhealthy foods more drastically and increasing the intensity of my work outs. I’m contemplating cutting out carbs drastically, too.
Bottom line: I absolutely love being in shape and I’m working towards it again. I feel happier, healthier, and more confident when I am in shape. Those are all very good things. So it’s high time I make my health a bigger priority, you know?
Hit me up with some tips or words of encouragement, eh? 🙂
