Been feeling very philosophical lately. Like, why am I here? What am I meant to do in this lifetime? What’s most important? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Focus on positive energy. Blah, blah, blah.
My dog watches the squirrels from the window. I wonder what he’s thinking.
That dog keeps me in check. That sounds dumb, probably. Especially to people who don’t have dogs or want them or understand them. “How do you mean a dog keeps you … in check?”
Well, I do tend to sweat the small stuff. I over-think things. I get grumpy. I feel overweight and unwanted sometimes. I worry about each of my relationships. I get too excited about home decor, hanging with friends, and all the wonderful things happening in life. And I get a little too philosophical sometimes.
That’s the exact moment that my dog does something very dog-like and adorable. Or annoying. Take your pick. He’s just … awesome at interrupting my train of thought at the most critical moment in the perfect way.
This dog has taught me a lot about life.
Positive, calm energy is a good thing to find in a leader. Set boundaries and enforce them consistently. Understand your habits and needs. Make time to play every day. Be a bully when it’s appropriate. Reward good behavior, even with just a small gesture. Welcome friends with excitement when you see them. Let people love you. Enjoy the view from your windows.
Life is … entirely too short. It’s easy to get wrapped up in small details and not appreciate life on a grander scale. I’m thankful for this dog who reminds me that life is, often, just meant to be enjoyed.
Thank you, Louie.
