Dozer is a happy pig with a big personality that lives at the Blindspot Animal Sanctuary (BSAS) in North Carolina. He was one of the animals featured on a billboard on I-40 in North Carolina as part of Picturing Pigs. The project is designed to help people see real pigs, instead of cartoons that are common in hog country.

Dozer came to BSAS as a six-month old pig from the local animal shelter. He had been roaming neighborhoods and uprooting flowers so someone called animal control. They eventually learned that Dozer had run away from home under threat of being killed. His sibling did not survive.

Because of the timing of the film’s production, Dozer is featured in the documentary we’re making. He is a big boy, very curious, and frequently up to something mischievous. Dozer is one of my favorite pigs because he’s such a cool dude.

One of the things I love about this project is the network of people working together to save lives. It is a really beautiful collaboration between passionate people who want to make a difference. It gives me a lot of hope.

The movie might be about pigs but the theme is love. In the midst of all the chaos and devastation we see everyday, it’s still possible to love. And it’s possible to make a difference by being kind.

The people that make these sanctuaries keep going are incredible. They work hard. They love fiercely. They want us all to live our best lives in peace. They advocate for animals and educate the public. It is no small undertaking. I’m constantly impressed.

We’re working hard on raising funds for post-production so we can finish the film and start sharing it with you. It has been a long process and a labor of love for our team. Please ask any questions you have about what we’re doing and stay tuned for more details.
