I get a lot of interesting questions about filmmaking.

One of the most frequently asked questions is, “How do you do it all?”

And, no, that’s not a #humblebrag – just to be clear.

It’s a genuine question people ask when they find out about all of the things happening in my world. I have my hands in a lot: Brewconomy, the TriFilm Society, hobbies, and new films. People genuinely ask how to get more done.

If you’re day dreaming about all of the things you want to accomplish in your life, pay attention to this blog post. If you’re day dreaming about “one day” or “when you have the time” to make your dreams come true, listen up. If you’re constantly thinking “when I have free time” then this is for you.

To help you accomplish more in 2017, I want to share one of my secret weapons.

One thing that helps me tremendously is the Fresh Start Workbook.

The Fresh Start Workbook is part of the NiceOps Planathon.

This will be my third year participating in the Planathon. I’m so excited about it.

Before you jump to a conclusion about this being only for the planning nerds, you should know something.

Confession: I used to hate planning.

Planning used to feel so rigid and restrictive. I assumed that being a planner meant you had no free time or room for spontaneity. I have resisted it throughout my entire life.

But eventually I began to fall in love with planning, when I began to see the results.

Planning ahead has helped me:

  • Remove the guesswork in my professional life
  • Accomplish more in less time during a calendar year
  • Set goals and actually accomplish the things I want
  • Say “no” to opportunities that don’t align with those goals
  • Enjoy more quality time with people I love, doing fun stuff

Now, I’m a believer. Planning has helped me so much. Really and truly.

The Fresh Start Workbook is a big part of that.

How does the NiceOps Planathon work?

When I first joined the Planathon, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But I was delightfully surprised every step of the way. And I’d love for you to feel that joy and confidence, too.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Buy the workbook here.
  2. Join the Planathon Facebook group.
  3. Follow along and participate.

It’s really that simple!

The Fresh Start Workbook is $27 until November 7th, at which time the price will increase to $34.

The workbook is a 100+ pages of questions to help you reflect on this year, and discover what you most want to accomplish in 2017. It’s also filled with quotes that make my little bookworm nerd heart swoon.

The PDF is fillable, so you can use the workbook digitally. So handy and environmentally friendly. No need to print it out, unless you’re a pen + paper person. (I’ve tried both methods and they worked well.)

How does time pass so quickly these days?!

I’m in awe that we’re at the end of 2016 already. But I’m so excited about planning 2017!

I’ve already got my big calendar ready for the Planathon. Sticky notes are ready to go, too.

Last year, during the last Planathon, I used a massive calendar to help with the planning. It has helped me SO MUCH in 2016. Really and truly.

Last year, I put all 12 months of 2016 up on the wall. Using color-coded sticky notes, I sketched out my ideal year. Each month included fun time, work events, and special programming. I brainstormed all of the things I wanted to accomplish, and assigned dates for them. If one month was too heavy in one color, I knew that a tweak was needed (ie: not enough QT with loved ones).

While co-working last year, people would walk by my office and ask questions about the calendar wall.

They’d ask, “What are you doing?!”

Or they’d smile and say, “I wish I were that organized!”

Some people would make jokes about penciling them in, too.

The funny thing? I don’t self-identify as a planner. I’ve never really enjoyed planning.

But now I’m a firm believer that this is the way to go, especially if you’re hoping to accomplish a lot next year.

Start making your dreams come true.

One of the things I talk about a lot is making your dreams come true.

We tend to bury our dreams down inside, where we hope to forget them.

What happens instead? We bury them so deep, that they aren’t forgotten; they start to eat away at us from the inside. It can make us cranky, tired, overweight, and angry at the world. No bueno.

My biggest wish for you, my friend, is that you won’t bury those dreams. Instead, you’ll commit to taking a step towards making them come true. There’s so much joy waiting for you.

A big part of making your dreams come true is taking action. Planning to take action in 2017 is really, really, really powerful stuff. I’m walking proof that you can make stuff happen by taking the tiniest steps forward.

You can do it. I believe in you. And I’m walking right beside you.
