Last night I attended the screenings during filmSPARK at the Cary Theater. We got there at 7:00 pm to see the dance films, then watched the local independent films at 8:00 pm. In case you weren’t there, I’ll provide a recap for you here.

The local independent films included two from yours truly. We screened Trophy, which is a short comedy I wrote, produced and edited. I absolutely loved hearing everyone laugh in exactly the right places. It’s so rewarding to watch your film in a proper theater.

"Trophy" is a short film I shot with friends in early 2013.

We also screened raw sample footage from my next documentary,Brewconomy, which is a work in progress. It’s set for release in 2015. This is the first time I’ve seen that footage on the big screen and it was insanely rewarding! I have so many ideas about sharing the finished film with everyone and can hardly sit still long enough to write this blog post. So many people are working so hard on Brewconomy, and it’s going to be an incredible finished film!

There were two entertaining animated shorts screened as well. I feel really terrible about this because I don’t have details about them to share with you here, other than the fact that I enjoyed them. If I can get those details, I’ll be sure to update this post with more info because they were entertaining.

After the screening of those short films, I was given a chance to briefly address the audience. Hooray!

We talked about Trophy and how it was an experiment for me — a way to shift from documentary story telling to fiction films. I had so much fun making that short comedy! Then we discussed Brewconomy and when it will premiere. We’re in post-production on the film and hope to debut the film in April 2015, and we’ll keep you posted when it’s ready to screen. During the conversation, I also introduced Crowdfund Your Film. This is a digital course I’m teaching, which will show my fellow filmmakers how to crowdfund successfully. It will cover everything from the moment you think that crowdfunding might be a good idea, to the moment you deliver your last backer reward — and then some. I’m really excited about the course, and you can learn everything about it right here: crowdfundyourfilm.com.

After the quick Q&A, we moved to the feature presentation of Harbinger.

This is a movie I’ve wanted to see for a while, and I was so elated to finally watch it. What a gorgeous film. I have a lot to share with you about it here but feel like another post might be more suitable since I’ve rambled on about my own projects long enough.

So expect a new blog post specifically about Harbinger in the coming week. I can’t wait to share more thoughts on it. ‘Til then, find them on Facebook and Twitter to follow along.
