Yesterday I talked about captive audiences watching my films in the ideal setting: a dark, comfy theater. While that’s the ultimate situation, it’s not always an option. So I feel like it’s important to have a way to share your film with people — whenever and wherever they decide to watch it.
That’s why I want to put my work online. I decided to put the first feature-length film I ever made, Abandoned Allies, online. You can rent it here for just $3.99. Please do. (Be sure to tell me what you think of it.)
Why is it on Vimeo On Demand?
So you can see it, of course. Vimeo makes it easy to watch the film immediately, without waiting for a DVD to arrive in the mail. It’s also more environmentally friendly than shipping, which makes me happy.
What is Abandoned Allies?
It’s a 60-minute documentary about the Montagnard people who served alongside American soldiers during the Vietnam War. They were incredibly loyal and saved many lives. But very few people know that story. You can be one of the few who know it. Here’s the trailer.
Why did I make Abandoned Allies?
It’s an important part of American history and that’s relatively unknown. I was wildly impressed with the people I interviewed. I captured the story to make it accessible for others because I feel it’s worth sharing.
Watch. Enjoy. Share.
The making of Abandoned Allies was an educational experience for me. I knew so little going into it about filmmaking, the war, and the people involved. I just jumped in with a lot of blind faith and never looked back. But I did blog about the entire filmmaking experience here.
Abandoned Allies is still very near and dear to my heart. This story is important and it’s worth hearing. This is also a litmus test for me in managing my own digital distribution. So I appreciate all feedback about your experience.
Watch the film. Enjoy it. Then share this link with your family and friends, if you feel so inclined.
