Last weekend I had the pleasure of spending some time with Shannon Johnstone, the photographer behind Landfill Dogs. You may recall those names, as I blogged about Landfill Dogs last May. Since then I have had little restraint in talking about her project whenever possible. To say that I’m a huge fan is, well, a gross understatement.

It makes me ridiculously happy that Shannon’s work has garnered attention from Mashable, Buzzfeed, Picture Correct, and a number of other awesome sites. She’s a talented photographer and I’m so glad people are taking notice. And sharing her photos.

When Shannon’s photos receive attention, so do the dogs. That’s really great because it means those dogs are much more likely to find a home. And there are so many sweet animals that still need loving homes.

Recently I mentioned the localization movement and its relationship to filmmaking. The more I think about Shannon’s Landfill Dogs, the more I want to make a film about it. The story is a beautiful one.

Stay tuned, my friends.

UPDATE: Since this post, Shannon’s work has been featured on HLN, N&O, and HuffPo! Keep the coverage coming!

UPDATE (12/5/2013): The photos of Landfill Dogs have been shared by Today, Yahoo!, and ABC. Shannon’s fan base has grown tremendously as a result. I couldn’t be happier!
