A free screening of the documentary film titled Business and Professional Women: A History, A Movement will take place at the IMAX Theatre at Marbles in Raleigh, N.C., this Sunday, October 20, 2013, starting at 2:00 pm. A panel discussion will follow the film screening.
The documentary is a 22-minute look at the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation (BPW), an organization that empowers working women. The origins of BPW date back to the early 1900′s when the U.S was involved in World War I. The documentary provides specifics about the role North Carolina women played in making BPW a strong voice for equality in the workplace. An interview with Dr. Lois Frazier, who taught at Meredith College and encouraged her students to get involved with BPW, is included in the film.

Business and Professional Women: A History, A Movement is narrated and directed by Ashley Maria, a North Carolina native who joined BPW while earning her undergraduate degree from UNC-CH. She now lives and works in Los Angeles, Ca., after recently earning an MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. Ashley Maria’s mother, Lea-Ann Berst, is co-producer of the film and past president of BPW-Raleigh.
Film-goers are invited to have lunch together at the Pogo restaurant at 1:00 pm. The film screening starts at 2:00 pm. A panel discussion with the filmmaker, women featured in the film, and local leaders will happen after the film screening at approximately 2:45 pm.
