Gasland II will screen for free in Durham, N.C., on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Documentary film director Josh Fox will be in attendance, so I’m hoping a Q&A session will follow the screening. The event is organized by Clean Water for NC and Working Films.
The screening is free and open to the public. You just have to register here to attend, then print and bring your tickets to the screening.
Want to hear more about the film from the director? Josh Fox was on The Daily Show last June to promote Gasland II. John Oliver (who hosted the show for Jon Stewart during the summer) interviewed Josh Fox in three parts, which you can watch online here. (Watch the first one and the others will play automatically afterwards.) It’s pretty great.
I’m very interested in this film. Fracking has been discussed in North Carolina a lot lately, and it makes me nervous. Everything I’ve read about leads me to believe there are terrible consequences to fracking — and we may have not choice on the matter in this state very soon. It may be forced on some N.C. residents, according to an August 2013 article from the News & Observer:
North Carolina landowners would be forced to sell the natural gas under their homes and farms – whether they want to or not – under a fracking recommendation approved Wednesday that’s expected to be enacted by the state legislature this fall.
It would be wonderful to see a top-notch panel at the event. I’d love to hear a short, healthy conversation after the film. It’d also be great to find ways to continue the conversation later — when folks haven’t been sitting for so long — because this is important stuff. I hate leaving a documentary film feeling helpless; give me a way to take action quickly, ya know? Anyway, there was no mention of a Q&A on the event registration page, but here’s hoping!
