The second annual Alice Fest took place yesterday at Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies in Durham, N.C., from 1:30 to about 5:30 pm. It was an incredible afternoon. Since so much happened in one day, I plan to share more details about the fest throughout this week.

To get things started, let’s talk about Alice Guy-Blaché, one of the world’s first directors. I like her a lot. I’m stoked that I know about her now, thanks to the director of Alice Fest, Vivian Bowman-Edwards. Take a peek at this short video about Alice Guy-Blaché and I bet you’ll become a fan, too.

Alice had a pretty impressive life. What a pioneer. I’m so thrilled to know about her and her life, work, and accomplishments. She seems like such a champ.

This, my friends, is one of the reasons I love film festivals. There’s nothing like it. You find yourself surrounded by smart, passionate people who want to learn. It’s an incredible thing. I’m so grateful that I was asked to attend Alice Fest as a special guest. What an honor.

PS: Alice Guy-Blaché met her husband at a bull fight! Are you kidding me. Good gosh. Please tell me that we would have been friends if I had been alive then. I love it.
