Delusion: The Blood Rite is an interactive haunted play produced by Jon Braver and Neil Patrick Harris playing in LA through November 10th.
While in L.A. last week, Ashley Maria and I went to see “Delusion: The Blood Rite.” It’s an interactive haunted play produced by Jon Braver and Neil Patrick Harris. So, basically, that’s a haunted house of sorts but with great actors who make you a part of the story. You have to do some of the things they ask of you (find or carry something, or go into a certain room).
Even though I’d read their site, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. So I went in with an open mind, some apprehension about being scared, and excitement about the unknown — knowing only that it’d be awesome.
It definitely didn’t disappoint!
Since the interactive play runs through November 10th, I won’t disclose all that happens. Just in case others wanna go see it. I’d hate to be the one that spoils the fun, you know?
I will tell you this: at one point I got so scared and startled, I grabbed a total stranger’s arm and yelled at the top of my lungs! That was a turning point for me, too.
I went from thinking, “OK, this is a fun play. I know it’s not real. I probably won’t get scared.” Then my inner monologue changed to something like this, “Oh, crap, I’m not standing by that wall, someone might try to sneak up on me. Where’s my friend?! What are they doing with her?! I want to leave now!”
Yep. They got me. Really good, too.
To calm down afterwards, Ashley Maria and I split a grilled mac & cheese sandwich. While we ate, we talked and laughed about the experience. I described grabbing the guy’s arm, and he turned and smiled at us. So I apologized profusely about it, being totally embarrassed, and he graciously laughed it off. I think he got a little unsettled because I was so freaked out! Haha.
Well done, y’all. Well done.
Big thanks to Lea-Ann Berst for suggesting the play. Tip of the cap to Jon Braver, Neil Patrick Harris, and all of the folks that made “Delusion” possible. So many fabulous actors. Great set design. And a seriously tasty drink while we waited (close to a Dark N’ Stormy!).
I thoroughly enjoyed it!
