If you look at the NC Film Office’s list of current productions, you’ll see there are quite a few exciting things happening in North Carolina right now. This is the result of legislation that makes N.C.’s film tax incentives competitive, so our state is seeing a resurgence in the number of productions coming here.
So, with all of this film and television excitement, how do you get a piece of the action? One way is by submitting your information to become an extra.
Many positions are unpaid, but could lead to bigger opportunities. For example, check out Maria Howell‘s story in the Star News here. She was an extra in “The Color Purple” and has since been in “Revolution,” “Vampire Diaries,” and “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”
There are plenty of places to look for casting info on a national level, but I’ve found a few of the companies that are handling North Carolina productions like “Caged Heat” (aka “Iron Man 3”), “Homeland,” and “Revolution.”
All of these casting companies list the latest news on their Facebook pages, so keep track of things there. They’ll post information about casting opportunities, what type of extras they’re seeking, and when you’re needed for fittings and filming. Keep track of what they post on their Facebook pages, which I’ve listed here:
- Double A Casting (“Revolution”)
- Tona B. Dahlquist Casting
- Vanessa NCasting
If you have a casting company with a North Carolina focus to add to the list, let me know. I’ll be happy to update this post with that information.
