The book I’m reading right now is Rework. This book is perfect for filmmakers. Here’s why.
I’m more than half way through and I have been reading it less than 24 hours. It’s broken down into small segments that make for a quick read.
Since there are bold headers and graphics on nearly every other page, the concepts are easy to revisit (without highlighting everything). The sketches help visual learners (like filmmakers) remember those concepts easily.
Each concept is explored succinctly. They don’t belabor a point but give enough information to get it and get on with the rest of the book. There are great, real-life examples with footnotes. The authors give you a concept, proof of its validity, and a footnote where you can read more information if you want it.
All in all, this is my kind of book. It’s full of ideas to make your life easier so you can accomplish more. And it’s written for people doing big things with few resources. People, like filmmakers, who wear a lot of hats and want to use their time wisely.
Bonus: I checked it out from my library so I paid nothing to read it. It also smells really great.
